Wow, great guide, thanks mooky !
I have one question though, I have disabled all the services I do not need, and everything is OK.
Well, almost everything, because even though there are no problems, there is one nag I want to get rid of.
When I boot up the PC, the system just freezes for a few seconds at the "Starting up Windows", you know, the blue screen that you sometimes see before you actually enter the actual shell.
Before I disabled the services I didn't even see that screen, so if any of you guys have any ideas about which service is responsable, please share them with me

As an administrator, if you've not encrypted it (important!), then you should be able to right-click, select the security tab and "take ownership".

If you've encrypted it, it depends how well you reinstalled windows. If you formatted the disk, there is no known recovery if you don't have the encryption key backed up.

Show hidden components in Windows Components Wizard
Locate the "sysoc.inf" file in the \WINDOWS\inf directory. (You may have to enable “show hidden files” and “show hidden/protected system folders” to find it)

Wherever you see
Code:
,hide,
remove the "hide" to make it
Code:
,,
Then save the file. Doing so will make formerly hidden items visible in the Windows Components list.

Enable a Details Tab in Each Device’s Properties Dialog Box
Click Start>>>Settings>>>Control Panel>>>System
Select the Advanced tab and click "Environment Variables"
Under the "System Variables" box click "New"

Variable Name:
Code:
DEVMGR_SHOW_DETAILS
Variable Value:
Code:
1

Enable file search to include all files in Windows XP
To make file searching faster Search only looks at registered files. To force Search to look through all file types go to
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
Control\ContentIndex
in Regedit and change the decimal value data for
Code:

from 0 to 1

Enable viewing of previously attached (non-present) devices in Device Manager
By enabling this you will be able to see devices that were installed then removed. This can aid in cleaning out unused devices from your Device Manager. These non-present devices appear as half-opaque "ghost" icons.

Click Start>>>Settings>>>Control Panel>>>System
Select the Advanced tab and click "Environment Variables"
Under the "System Variables" box click "New"

Variable Name:
Code:
 DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES
Variable Value:
Code:
1
