get a copy of audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net).
also i think you'll need lame_enc.dll. you'll need to download lame_enc.dll and install it somewhere i think. its required to convert .wav to .mp3. because i use and like winamp, this is what i do:

download and install audacity
download and install winamp
download lame_enc.dll
copy or move lame_enc.dll into c:\program files\winamp\plugins (by doing this, winamp can take advantage of it as well)
run audacity and its going to ask you to find lame_enc.dll so go to winamp's plugin folder and select it from there.

now you're ready to record .wav (or mp3) using winamp and edit the mp3 using audacity.
and ready to record/edit using audacity using the line/in as the source.

i don't know ANYTHING about cell phones. i just got a basic nokia with default ring tones so good luck with the second part.

For the P900, it's generally a better idea to put things like ringtones, backgrounds and so on actually on the memory card. That way you don't use up the phone's rather limited internal memory on big things like ringtones or backgrounds.

If you already have a memory stick reader, and an adapter for the duo cards, then you can easily place the file on the memory stick duo!
