No, desire for an easy path dictates that. Logic has nothing to do with preference, or wanting to master a new OS.

This is a task piccoLEW seeks to find accomplishment in completing. That he has difficulties doesn't mean that

Widows is better, not for HIS purposes. And no neither of them are any type of frantic, simply determined to learn what they wish to know.

What you mistake for rudeness is no more than K. pointing out that to fail to grasp the basic situation, and repeat what, for piccoLEW and K. is a known but unacceptable (for THEIR purposes) solution is not helpful.

Basically all you were saying to them was "Give up."

Something they are disinclined to do.

Daniel, that was the post I originally responded too.
I was under the impression that maybe, it would be better to not use wine, and use a dual boot, that was my point, sorry if I seemed a bit insistant, I just hate watching peeps struggle when there is a easy solution, I respect his ambition to achieve this, but I myself would have taken a better approach, but to each his own..

No, you and I might take a different approach, one completely inferior, considering his chosen path, for HIS purposes, however well suited to you or me.

It's not an solution if it doesn't solve his problem, as HE defines that problem, and dual booting clearly wouldn't.

So? Do you really think he doesn't already know that?
That's NOT what he's trying to do.

I know, I was just adding in my $00.02, no need to get huffy...
I know stuff before I am taught in school, but I have to listen to it anyway, same idea, and it is relevant to this...some how..

"lets not bicker and argue.."

my next problem getting microsoft sidewinder to work.. i've looked around the web a bit and i've come across an rpm which hasn't done anything for me,
and the "linux input drivers" page well, i got lost trying to follow the not-so-idiot-friendly instructions and most of the games i wanna play require use of a joystick, before i can get it to work in wine i need linux to know there is a joystick there...

I'm sorry but I don't agree that I bicker and argument is the purpose of a forums, differing points of view given a mannered expression.

Joystick support is compiled as a kernel module usually. I would be surprised if Mandrake hadn't compiled it, though it would not surprise me in the slightest to learn that they hadn't installed it. What comes up if you search for "joystick" in MCC -> Install Software?

Otherwise you have 2 options: either tell me what version of kernel, gcc and glibc you're using, and I'll try to build it all as a module, or if it's one of those "mixed" arrangements, in which support must be enabled in the kernel, then modules built for each driver, then you're gonna have to learn how to build your own kernel

Quick question: do you have a file called /proc/config.gz ?

whine whine whine wine

I thought this was going to be a thread on 'reggae beat' band UB40 ...
..though in fact the lyrics to their tune was 'red red wine' not whine whine whine, but the affected high pitched garbled delivery makes that point irrelevant..

Two copies of Renegade?
Would you want to swap one for a copy of Z Steel Soldiers Picco? (yeah I know being a C&C fan you are unlikely to appreciate what is ultimately a tongue in cheek variation on this gaming genre )

btw - how was your japanese booze?
After 4 weeks of work without a day off the idea of pataking in some cold crisp spirituous inebriant is real distracting a thought!

If it is its because it features less packages, tools whatever...

The 1 CD SUSE is just a "live eval", i.e. SuSE's take on Knoppix. SuSE also offer a single-disc ISO of their "personal" edition, which is just enough to give you a console. I'm not sure how their 32 bit version works, but I was thoroughly unimpressed with SuSE 9.1 for 64 bit.

The problems really are with Wine. WineX (now named Cedega) is apparently far better, but it's not free. There are other options, such as vmware, too. Also consider Gentoo, but be warned that it's not easy.

Kaitain,
Do you have any idea how SUSE would take to a dual PIII mobo? I've got one here that I am getting ready to bring up, and I'm debating whether to make it a Windows box or a Linux box. The mobo is an ASUS P3C-D, but it is rebadged for HP. HP used these boards in their XM600 workstations, apparently.
