Question xp to dos (win98se) networking

i have a 98se box full of songs and i also have a xp machine that i primarily use.

with the 98se box, i dont boot into 98se but into dos and use dos apps for playing the files and games.

i want to be able to send/recieve files to the 98se box from the xp box. the 98se box is a p2 system with a pci nic card (wired).

how can i do network the two machines? i have the dos drivers but i have to configure it...which i don't know how to do.

thanks,
barneygumble742

Do you just wanna pull the song from the 98 box to have them on your XP box? Then just put the 98 drive in the XP box, copy over and done.

When you say you have DOS drivers, which ones do you have? There are several drivers necessary to manage networking under DOS. A word of warning however, it's been years since I configured any DOS networking!

Be aware that installing DOS networking will take up a big chunk of DOS memory, so you probably don't want it loaded all the time.

It's probably easier to have the DOS machine as a client of the Win XP machine than the other way around.

i do want the dos machine as a client and the xp machine as the "server."

the dos machine is custom built. it's a tiny arcade machine that has like 2000+ old fashioned "wargames" (movie) style games...not thermonuclear warfare but like pong and all the old-school games.

i want to be able to transfer mp3s to the dos machine (it has an awesome dos mp3 player) so that i can play the mp3s on the dos box.

it would actually be nice for the xp machine to see the contents so that incase there's something wrong i can always backup files on the xp box.

thanks,

me feels this would be quicker resolved by people who are still using Dos & so may have networked it with their XP machines... I would urge you to go find a pool of DOS users as they are more likely to have 'lived' through your problem. (DOS users forum...)

Microsoft Networking under DOS is a real PITA. Novell did it much better IMHO.

That being said, this is a Win98 box. Why not just load the Win32 network drivers for the NIC you are using and build a Windows network?
