Avast!

A few weeks ago i installed Avast! for my anti virus software, and then i started noticing my game and benchmark performance dropping drastically. I couldnt figure out what was wrong at first. All i knew was things like my Aquamark scores dropped by like 15000 points. Then i figured it out.... Avast! is very invasive when it comes to game performance, so i uninstalled it and like magic all my performance problems went away. I dont know if anyone else uses this software, but if you do, beware of performance loss from it. Now i am back to using AVG, and i have no problems at all.

I've always been a pretty avid AVG user (since my introduction to it by Jazz), but decided to try Avast! on my laptop. As I don't game with my laptop I can't really say anything about it, but I will admit that I love the interface. Hmm...I suppose I will be staying away from it in the future in regards to anything but the lappy.

Having used both fairly recently, I would tend to go for AVG in preference. All virus checkers will dent performance slightly - it's their job to intercept all reads and writes to disc to check that there's nothing malicious going on.
