WMA to MP3 Converter

Does anyone know of a free program to convert WMA to MP3?
Media Player only rips to WMA and my MP3 player (and sony Walkman for Xmas) will not support WMA.
At a stretch, I will pay £15 for something off amazon.

Do you have Nero installed on your PC ? It has Nero Wave editor that can be used to do this task.

If you still have the original CD that the WMA was ripped from (assuming it was ripped rather than something you purchased online), you would be better off to rip from the original CD to MP3 as opposed to converting the WMA to MP3. Doing a conversion from one compressed format to another almost always results in a 3 dB signal to noise ratio loss, rather like the 'copy of a copy' problem that you used to see with VCR tapes.

I've got some WMAs that I ripped from CD before I realized the implications of that horrid DRM that MS embeds in them. I can't re-rip them from CD because the CDs that I used have since been damaged (oddly, the reason I ripped them to start with was to KEEP them from getting damaged, but that is another tale; suffice to say that dogs shouldn't be allowed near CDs). When I transcoded them to MP3, I was not pleased with the results.

Best ever.

The CD input allows ripping to .mp3 too.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to try all of them, that way I can find something I enjoy to use.
Thanks again.

I am a little late on this one, but Windows media player does in fact rip to mp3.

Click on tools, options, then click on the Rip Music tab, then under Rip settings select mp3 from the drop down menu.
