| driver.cab file missing My xp pro cd is in rough shape and when I went to reformat I found that setup cannot copy the driver.cab file....umm what'll happen if I skip the file? Can I copy the file from a machine & throw it in after?  Suggestions pls?

| If the CD is scratched you should be able to polish the scratches out of it. I would try some T-Cut, don't know if it has the same name in the US. But, it is a cutting polish for car paint. Effectively it is very fine sand paper. Or use one of those CD repair kits specifically for this.

| I've polished the crap out of it, used a very very fine sand paper, then a finer piece, then a polishing compound, then buffing cloth. nada.

| Have you tried replacing driver.cab with the version from SP2, by using the damaged XP CD to do a SP2 slipstream? It could work, my XP disk was near destroyed before I slipstreamed it.
