ToIP 1.1

Hi all,
Over the past month or so, i've been busy working on ToIP 1.1. I've finally finished it and it's ready to go. It has taken a lot of effort to get what i wanted in, but most of the features (Excluding the sounds i was planning to include) are in there. It isn't ToIP 1.1 though, it's ToIP X-Tremor! It's more customisable than any instant messenger i've ever seen. It's got a lot more in this version than the first. It is however, a much larger download (approx ~20Mb) but has a setup routine. Originally, when i had the sounds included, it was approx. ~100mb without a setup routine!

But, i'm not releasing it yet. I do have a preview presentation of it, exclusive to AOA, which is attached to this post. Just double click the 'ToIP_Presentation.htm' to view the presentation and enjoy.

More info about the program will be released, i'll also give a release date in a few days. Be aware that ToIP client v1.0 is still compatible with servers running the new version, and vice versa. After all, software should be compatible with older versions.

Even more goodies for you to enjoy. This time, it's 3 desktop backgrounds, all in PNG format. Didn't take long to do, but i like them. It's only 140kb download and contains 3 different styles of background, depending on your mood.

Just an update on the project, i've added a few new features to the Server Version, such as custom server name, custome server subject, server restart button (which also sends a message telling clients to reconnect, also handy to get rid of inactive clients) and a few other goodies for you to enjoy. I've also got a prospected release date: Monday 1st May 2006! It'll be up on my website at Midnight on that day, so all those who have mayday bank holiday off of work or school can try it out all day. There's an incredible amount of features in this program, considering it's an instant messenger but running a server requires approx ~10mb memory for the program and then i'd allow about 250kb per client connected, although i don't have any good way of testing this, but since it's only text strings being sent, it shouldn't use too much. I should be running a server soon, when i get my wireless setup and find time to build the other PC.

I'll be creating a server setup assistant soon to help make it easier for you to get a server up and running.

More updates soon.

Would it be possible for it to send a string that tells the client software to wait X minutes and then reconnect? That would be very nifty

I was thinking of something like that, but actually getting th server to send a message to clients was a bit of trouble. I'll give it a try for you though.

Ok, there was no way for me to do what you asked, but i have just about finished it, i'm just finalising the setup program. In total, it's 22mb, but that includes the server, client, help, autoupdater, uninstaller, cd backup and a few other goodies. If you go to my site at midnight tonight, you'll find a news update with a link to the download.

Ok, there's now a server running, not sure if it'll be online all the time, depends on how my router handles it. Anyway, the details are:

URL: toip.kicks-ass.net
port: 27000

If you got to http://toip.kicks-ass.net:27000, you'll just see something crazy. It can be accessed via a browser, but you'll get instanlty disconneted since it's not got a web client yet, but i'm going to work on one as soon as possible.

To run a server, you simply need the following:

10Mb of memory for the server itself
500kb of memory for every client that is connected
500Mhz or better pentium 2
An internet connection, the faster the better (ideally 512kbps or better)
25mb spare disk space for installation
Windows 95 or later

For the client:
20mb of memory
500mhz or better pentium 2
An internet connection, the faster the better (56k is suitable though)
Windows 95 or later

If you are running on anything that's not NT based, then some of the features are disabled, and you will be alerted to this when the program starts.

So what are everyone's thoughts on this? How could it be improved? What features would you like to see in the next version?
