Talking Ubuntu - Linux for Human Beings (Really!)

aah.... i never used a debian based distro. now im a fan of fedora just cuz its so easy and so much support, as well as so many cool rpms all around. but my experience with yum started getting bitter, cuz somehow i always had busy proxies and stuffs like that. also, things were ot quite that easy in many situation. anyways, since redhat 4 till FC 5 ive tried every one of the releases. i was happy, i was sad - but there was always some stuffs that'd make trouble, or wont work - or something! well, i signed up for one of those free CDs order, and in around 3 weeks or so i got my discs. i was amazed, cuz i wasnt expecting 'em to be sent anyway... neither was i waiting for them. but why not give it a try 'eh? well... thats all i had to do, give it a "little" try. from theinstallation steps till right now - everything in Ubuntu's Breezy Badger amazed me. Things are just so simple, well oriented, well clustered, well EXPLAINED, and stable - you just cant ak for more. Although I dont need a linux this simple, but hey why not? I immidiately burned mre copies and gave em to friends, relatives and also installed it for my mother - ho ho ho! Everyone's happy. This is asmooth, clean, simple linux distro - if you want basic computing with some fun and looking for the easiet one ~ look no further. It really deserves more attention. I haven't tried Mandrive One yet - but I dont think linux can get easier than this.

Please spend some time, downlaoding the zip file from the following URL, and have a look at this amazing linux OS.

So you're saying Ubuntu is worth a shot then? Something i want to know, will it support my NForce 4 Ethernet, so i can still access the internet?

Also, what's the exe handling like on it? All the linux distros i've tried were crap at exe handling.

Well when i tried ubuntu it wouldn't work with my nForce ethernet controller. The only linux distro i've installed so far that has actually worked with it is Slackware.

Ubuntu is extremely annoying if you need to do anything whatsoever that requires root access. It forces you to use sudo all the time, which is a major pain in the ass. It's ok if you're gonna use it for browsing the internet or the odd word processing/spreadsheet task. Nothing more. Power users will hate it. Noobs to pc's will love it, it's easier to use than windows to a newbie but not quite as apparant as Mac OSX is. They'll need a little coaching at first but thats it.

Stick with a proper distro (like Slack) if you want to be able to tweak ur linux. If you just want a fast distro thats easy to set up go for ubuntu.

I'm sticking with my Suse 10 for now. A little bloated and slow but... I "know" it. I'm starting to become a little bit better at fixing it when I break it.

It isn't bad at all. Its interesting that one of the reasons MS treats people like crap is that they are the only game in town that is both cheap and easy. MacOS is easy, but very expensive, and Linux is cheap, but never easy. Ubuntu really does change that.

I've had my little sister using Dapper Drake for some time, and she doesn't have a problem with it. It really impresses me in that regard. No, its not as powerfull as Fedora, SuSe, Debian etc, but it takes the friendly attitude of Mandrake and pushes it further into the general user space.

I don't personally use Ubuntu myself, but damn, I'm glad they're around.

WIndows is like dell in a way, its standard, sucks ass but standard. How many version of Widows are there? Linux? Linux doesn't ahve a standard and everything is compatible with windows.

The kernel in linux distros is the same. Few distros do much editing to the kernel. The core packages are all GNU based, so that most linux distros are actually very similar at the core.

Have you tried using GIMP instead of Photoshop? Its free, and IMHO easier to use.

Yeah GIMP's good. A pig to adapt to if you're used to PS though.
