Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator.

That's the message I get when I do the three finger salute in XP home. How do I get it back?

Method 1

Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste)
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Method 2

* Open Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) and navigate to:

HKCU \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies\ System

* In the right-pane, double-click DisableTaskMgr and set it's data to 0

Edit: I've never experienced this, but apparently it is most likely to occur when you switch from standard to 'Classic' desktop mode

Sometime malware does this. I've had quite a few experiences this way. When that happens, it's usully time i make one of my batch removers.

I'd do a whole system scan, or at least the drive windows is installed on.
