Play games with limited account

I have a little tweak that may help some of you. I set up my boys machine with limited accounts. This keep them from installing and uninstalling anything that may be harmful to the pc. As you know, some games do not run on a limited account. I stumbled across this tweak some time back and would like to share it.

1. create a user account called able2play.
2. make it an administrator acount.
3. create a password. Something like "play" will work.
now you say what keeps them from logging on to this account.
4. run VBS script and enter able2play account as the account you want to hide at the welcome screen.
well what if they go to the traditional logon prompt and logon?
5. install reg patch that auto logs off anyone that logs onto the able2play account.
6. right click on shortcut that you want to play and select run as
7. select able2play and enter password.

this works flawlessly. After you do all the work all the user has to do is item 6 and 7.

If there is a better way please let me know.

I have attached the VBS file and the reg tweak in zip format....

I thought about setting up a guide with screen shots.

Hey Giz, is this worth doing?

I'd definitely like to see you take this to where a beginner could put this in place if needed Sam....they are the one's in real trouble with their kids usage monitoring... I can't imagine how afraid some of them must be ....

Sam has turned this into a fine article for us. Why don't you take a look at it on the Front Page:

Pleas give me feed back if you try this. I found this a while back and have used it on several machines. It always seems to work great...

Thanks Gizmo....

Hi Tony! This is a very busy time for Samuknow. I can't say when he might find time to answer you questions. I'm sorry I can't offer you more.

That's exactly what it is SUPPOSED to do. Look at step 5
Quote:
5. install reg patch that auto logs off anyone that logs onto the able2play account
This is NOT an account that you log into as a normal user: it is an account you use to play games, using the 'RunAs' facility of Windows, as outlined in steps 6 and 7:

Quote:
6. right click on shortcut that you want to play and select run as
7. select able2play and enter password.
It's an account created for the purpose of allowing you to play games which require greater permissions than you want the normal user to have.
