Havent looked throught the guide yet so - appoligise if this is covered there - but.... Just wondering: > what the total size of all those addons is - will a CD work,or would they need a DVD?? > I assume this would be the same procedure for installing other programmes - inc games?? - obviously would use a DVD at this stage. > Is there a way to auto sort them in the start menu (Office/Apps/Games/ Etc) - or would this need to be done manually by drag and drop afterwards?? Thanks

This guide is awesome and actually reminded me that i needed to make an SP2 integrated disc. The fact that i can rmeove what i don't need is excellent. The only problem i had was adding .exe files as hotfixes (such as XG drivers, AVG and other basic software). I can also integrate my CD-Key into the installer so i don't have to worry if i lose it. I think i may post a guide up about how to change your XP OEM into an XP Retail (Legally). It's really simple and can come in very useful in certain circumstances.

@ kellamne: The total size is ~ 700MB. But I doubt someone will need to integrate all addons LOL You can use a DVD if you need more space, but normally removing some Windows components will free you about 300-400MB and that's enough for integrating your favorite programs. Yes, you can install silently almost every software product including games. There are different methods like: silent switches, AutoIt scripts, repacked installers, etc. No you can't auto sort them that way. You have to repack every single addon to make it the way you mentioned.

Yes, there are an awful lot of things in the default XP installation that just aren't required. A lot of unneccesary services that can be set to disabled which helps an incredible amount for any gaming rig. I remember disabling just a few unessential services and i got 45 seconds off of my startup time! I'll see if i can sort out some batch script to disable the services that people don't use too often (such as the messenger service) and a few other various tweaks (such as changing the QOS quota amongst other things). Once again, thanks for this Rado354! You are a great commodity to this community.

First post updated - 13 new addons available ![]() Oops, deleted the mod's link for the video howto, can you please paste it again? I'm sorry ![]() @ skool h8r - by the way all services you mentioned... they could be just removed from the windows source files with nLite. In fact when I install Windows, I don't have to disable any services... they are just not there ![]()

This is the best guide for Windows CD's i've ever seen. Im tempted to do it with a copy of both XP Home and Pro but not put a CD in. So that when I build computers for people, all they have to give me is there CD-key for a fully functional version of Windows. ![]() Last edited by Rondog; 9th December, 2006 at 11:28 PM. |

AFAIK, they have to be adapted for U3 use, hence you can download a special version of Firefox that will run off your U3 drive. Correct me if I'm wrong!

I realise this is going to sound quite picky - but do you think you could add a date to new links as you add them? Really its just to help to scroll through the list to see which programmes are of interest. Sorry if that sounds ungrateful - its actually the opposite - I find this thread good and plan to have a further play with my install disk over the christmas break.

@ kellamne - I understand you perfectly and it would be better that way, but it will just over kill me ![]() You might want to check the original thread in the official nLite application addons forum: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=85566
