Rushing to Vista?

SysOpt has an interesting take on Vista and gets into some good detail on the reasons why you should wait a while before moving to it, if you do so at all.

"Microsoft suggests a number of reasons why Vista is more secure than XP will ever be. How's it different? For one, it's built with security as a chief priority. I hate to think where security fell in Windows XP's list of priorities, then, huh?"

Ive been beta-testing the "Live One Care" anti-virii/system maintainence app for some time now, and it's picked up quitea few virii that nothing else has...pswd stealers, etc, hidden in beta drivers. I had thought some of these files were hokey, but it was definately interesting to see my thought confirmed. I mentioned this issue on the ATI Catalyst 6.11 beta(from station-drivers)..and M$ agreed.

my system runs faster too...and that's a good sign. I've got a packet sniffer on the line, and there is now no netwrok atcivity from my box, unless i have allowed it.

It's not perfect, but if this app works in Vista(been a while since i signed onto that partition), I gotta say M$ might be right in thier assesment. Of course, they simply jsut stop patching XP, and they'd be right too!

Windows XP, the most secure version of Windows... Hold on, wasn't there an MS exec (Jim Allchin) who stood up and claimed that a code audit in XP had eradicated all buffer overflows in the product. Oh, don't worry about that DCOM vulnerability that's been lurking in Windows since 1996.

Why is Vista going to be different? Even in it's beta phase two vulnerabilities were found in Vista (MS06-042 and MS06-051).
