Vista "Clean Install" with an upgrade copy,...Cracked! Written by Daniel Wednesday, 31 January 2007 Workaround Discovered For "Clean Install" With Vista Upgrade DVDs Brandon Hill (Blog) - January 31, 2007 1:05 AM DailyTech Just when everyone thought that all hope was lost when it comes to performing a clean install with a Windows Vista Upgrade DVD, a gleam of light can now be seen at the end of the tunnel. A new workaround proposed by Paul Thurrott (via Microsoft internal documents) has been confirmed to work by DailyTech. We reported on Monday that Microsoft doesn't perform disc checking anymore during an operating system install. In the past, when performing a clean install, a user could boot from an install CD and insert a disc from a previous version of Windows for upgrade compliance.... Front Page

I'm not sure what they are trying to say. Either way, it's not a clean install. It's still installing over an old OS. The old OS is the same as the new OS this way, but anyone who has ever installed windows from windows knows it's not a clean install. They call it a clean install and then in the same breath say you have to go back and delete the windows.old directory. How is this a clean install again? You are just giving up the ability to go back to an OS that works, right? Not shooting the messenger. Thank you for posting this. I had a great laugh.

What the work around allows you to do is install Vista WITHOUT having a previouse instalation. Vista intended that one would have to install XP, then install Vista, every time if one was using an upgrade copy of Vista.
