C/net users have a bit different opinion of Vista...

I get the impression that CNET is some kind of marketing partner for Vista. It must be quite embarrassing for them!

Given the individual articles they've been posting on their Vista experience....I was rather surprised that they found it within themselves to be "collectively" this "generous" in their assessment.

It's also a bit premature. They're reviewing something which isn't really finished. Difficult to assess an operating system when many drivers are buggy, in beta and missing important features.

Since when was releasing an operating system that was still buggy and "in beta" the norm?

You need to live with an OS for months to truly apreciate/hate it.

All the people at this early a stage slagging it off obviously don't yet need it's features, which begs the question why are they reviewing it?

And all the reviews praising it haven't yet lived with it long enough to know it's quirks.

What's not finished about Vista? The code has been mastered and is in public hands. Drivers are not the same as the operating system. Hence, CNet have reviewed what has been released as finished code.

I think that CNet's second sentence in their article sums up their view on the product.

Certainly the review appears to be aimed at home users, rather than enterprise users - remember that CNet tries to cover both sets of users. Many of the features in Vista are squarely aimed at enterprise as, let's face it, enterprises make up MS's major market.

Drivers are a definitive part of any operating system, regardless of who is responsible for producing them.

The bulk of CNET's review merely looks at the GUI and installation process. It's far from an in-depth review of how Vista performs, nothing more than a quick look at a few odds and sods.

Lying is marketing is lying. Perhaps Vbista will be more atractive after SP1? I read that it is really a DRM nightmare disguised as an OS.
