Noone Here Should Be Buying Vista!!

So, yeah, new OS is out, and nary a OEM manufactureer has a proper driver for thier hardware.

NOONE ON THIS FORUM SHOULD BE RUNNING WINDOWS VISTA!!!!

...unless of course you've got some programming to do for it.

IT's VERY ready...don't get me wrong! But drivers and hardware support are not, and these things are not the job of Microsoft!!

I've seen alot of this :

Don't do it. IN September, it might be a good time to buy. April/May will be better too, after the spring tradeshows, but still not ready for anyone here.

PLS PLS PLS...don't buy it, don't post about it if you did, either! I mean really...I jump on the hardware bandwagon as soon as things are released, and yes, I have a few copies of Vista too, but guess what? They will collect dust until fall!

Anyone else care to interject?

I agree. It was the same with XP when it came out. I had the worst time with drivers. Actually had to buy a new sound card due to driver problems. And now it is up to the OEM hardware makers to come up with drivers. This may take a while to get sorted.

There is another good reason not to buy vista. Whenever MS releases a proper new version of windows, they update it a couple of years later with the real version so to speak.

Windows 3 had Windows for workgroups, Windows 95 evolved to 98, 2000 to XP and the same will come of vista.

It's basically a big public beta test where you get to pay for the privilege of letting Microsoft know whats wrong with it so they can release the proper version.

So say no to paying to be a guinea pig

No one should? Back when the 64 bit version of windows XP was released I bought it, too much of my hardware wouldn't work so I had to go back to 32 bit MCE.

Now a couple years later Vista is released and I got the 64 bit OEM version from newegg, and to my surprise everything works! Sure there are a few bugs but they arent as bad as past M$ OS releases.

Just my $.02 (or $199 plus shipping)

Sure. I merely mentioned that NOW was really not the time, and maybe by fall it would be prudent to do the switch...I did not say that it should NEVER be installed!

You say you have a few bugs or issues. Imagine the average user. Upgrade to vista and issues happen and then they are stuck . Most people are not computer savvy enough to pound through the problems. I myself do not want the problems. I will wait and see what happens. Maybe after the first SP I will be ready to take the plunge.

Well, that's kinda my point. Just so we are all aware; no, I personally do not have any issues, as i have no problem swapping parts that do not have drivers for ones that do, however, as you have stated, not everyone is in this sort of situation. For people like this, Vista would be a big no-no.

Creative is very lacking in the Vista department...and alot of average-joe-users have these cards. Immediate Issues ensue!

I do recall posting that yes, this issue is not really due to Vista itself, nor due to Microsoft, but due to hardware problems in the new operating environs, or driver problems. There's a reason I stated such! If you feel confident in the drivers the OEM for your parts has released, then by all means, go ahead and buy away!

Also of note is that some users here are having issues with lower-grade videocards and videogames...if you are in this situation, please go to microsoft's technet site and download and install the February DX9 SDK!!!

Just thinking out loud, but would that help with Daston's problems as posted in THIS THREAD?

Yes I have something to add, I have Vista Home Premium, (full, not upgrade) i've had it since release date, and it literally has dust on it at the moment. It will live there until I see Vista *native* drivers for every piece of hardware in my desktop. Also for the record, I, like another (at least one member here) got it for free direct from Microsoft.

Thats my $0.02.

I've been running the RC2 release of Vista Ultimate for a while now.

I have only had one problem, and that's with BF2.

I get a 'Insufficient OS Privelages' error, but I'm sure there's a way around that.

I'm gonna destroy the trend of this thread and say I don't mind Vista. It looks cool and, personally, it saves me a lot of time.

So yeah. <3

I'm using dual boot as I said in Daston's thread. I have no intention of running anything on here, except for Microsoft OneCare, Office Student Teacher 2007 and Vista Home Premium itself. Why you ask?

Where I work, i'm a technician, its bloody hard to explain to a customer over the phone how to do things when I don't know how to myself.

All three software titles I got for free. BTW: They are all 100% legit.

One other program I wanted to run was iTunes to have my music collection on both OS's. However iTunes v7.02 has a tendency to lose its marbles when importing music from another partition under a user name from a different OS. If i can be bothered later I will find a work around and post it.
