Microsoft and Speech Recognition: The Final Frontier?
If the rumors prove true, Microsoft's next big push in the area of Unified Communications could involve voice search.

Microsoft have been heavily involved in voice recognition technology for several years. I believe they quietly released a beta version of their Speech Server a couple of years ago. I think it was based on the Dragon Naturally Speaking engine.

Right now they are more-or-less dabbling in it. ASR (automated speech recognition) still has a very long way to go before it reaches the 'Star Trek' level of functionality, but for certain applications it works fairly well.

I remember way back when I got my hands on via voice. Worked pretty good if you were patient. I have media player and email set up for voice commands. Don't use it much though. I am looking forward to the day when everything is run from a computer in your house and everything is voice controlled.
