Actually it seem like a long time since MS really screwed people up with their updates...Good to know my contemptuous dislike of them can span the dry spells.":O}

we had this going on all over my college's network. Was a real PITA not to be able to complete any work as the machines where slowing to a crawl.

had that problem. Also duffed my internet usage at home, I was getting 160bps thats bits not kilobits or kilobytes. would take about 5min to open the google search site!

Thought that was the internet or lines company, but a reinstall of windows fixed it.

No more xp updates. Infact, the latest linux for dummies will be picked up next Thursday

Yea, only two weeks until Fedora 7, I'm looking forward to it.

Fedora, SuSE, and particularly Ubuntu are making ground at a rather great rate. Its not anything that will challenge Microsoft on the desktop yet, although it has the potential to give OSX some grief.

However, if Google propperly went to town with a special version of Ubuntu (A google ubuntu distro, or Goobuntu already does exist and is in use at google), there is potential for widespread adoption, particularly in academic areas.

Google could really take a quite user friendly distro like Ubuntu, and really turn it into something loved by all with a slick, clean, simple desktop.

Been looking at Kubuntu, however a liter version of Ubuntu such as Xubuntu is looking tempting as it shares similar features of Ubuntu aswell being a bit more quicker since it is lighter on GUI graphics etc.

Naturally this is all to the good... But a nagging thought disrupts my enjoyment, How long before Google makes MS look good!

We seem to be on a stairway to ever greater abuse and greed, each company as it becomes dominant, becomes worse than the last to hold that spot...

But a Google foundation to ease our way into Linux...hell, a reasonable approach or a deal with the devil? I couldn't say.
