File transfer...??

On the same machine I have two active hard drives with Fedora installed on each. One is 32 bit,7.0 , one is 64 bit 7.9 Fedora. I have gads of Music files on the 32 bit drive I'd like to copy to the 64 bit drive. How can I do this?

You should be able to simply mount the other fedora drive and then copy the files. Of course, if you mount the other fedora drive, you won't NEED to copy the other files......

You seem to have forgotten to whom you are talking to!!

One simply can't tell Daniel a thing, one has to take him by the hand and lead him gentle to it! ":O}

I can boot 64 with 32 bit drive connected, but don't know how or where to access it to copy files from. I cannot boot to 32 bit with 64 bit connected as it sees both drive as being labeled the same and quits.

Well, I'm somewhat hampered by the fact that I haven't got the foggiest idea how your 32-bit system is configured.

Boot into 32-bit-land and run the following command in a terminal window:

cat /etc/mtab

And past the contents back here.

Wouldn't have made any real difference. We'd've ended up back there anyway.

Ok, it looks like you are using LVM, probably version 2.

I hate to admit this, but I haven't got the foggiest idea where to go from here, because I don't have any experience with LVM.

I know you'll need to make a folder, say something like /olddrive. In principle, all you need to do then is mount the drive corresponding to /olddrive into the /olddrive folder. Since you are using LVM, and I don't know what the other volume is called, I don't know what the syntax would be. In all likelihood, it would be EITHER

mount -t ext3 /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol01 /olddrive

or

mount -t ext3 /dev/mapper/VolGroup01-LogVol00 /olddrive

but I'm not certain.

Can you do

ls -l /dev/mapper

and tell me what that says?

Do you need it in 32 bit as well?

Yes, please.

No, wait! I was just messing with ya! [ducks]

Make SURE you create the /olddrive folder, first:

mkdir /olddrive

Ok, I THINK if you use

mount -t ext3 /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol01 /olddrive

That will let you see all the files on the old 32-bit drive, rooted at /olddrive.

Of course, you don't HAVE to name it /olddrive, you can name it whatever you want, just make sure you use the same name in the mount command.

Ok, I open terminal, su to root then paste mkdir /olddrive press enter

Then paste mount -t ext3 /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol01 /olddrive

This will make the contents of my 32 bit music folder copy-able to my 64 bit music folder? TIA!!
