Interesting article, thanks for posting it danrok!
If you're not a serious Linux-head it's difficult to really recommend any of the text editors I've tried. I found EMACS not too bad--for simple stuff!

My favourite is still Gedit, purely because of its simplicity. Its very similar to notepad++ really.
