I've been following this whole sordid mess for the last few days.

No matter how this comes out, MS wins. If their OOXML standard is approved, they win. Regardless of whether the standard is approved or not, the ISO's credibility has been severely tarnished by this, so MS still wins.

Edit: The more I think about this, the more I think that just as soon as I can make a living writing non-windows software, I'm going to stop having anything whatsoever to do with Microsoft and its products.

Human beings are greedy by nature. It's a survival characteristic. For most of us, there are practical limitations to our greed. Remove those limitations, though, and you get something like this......

I would say that we tend to be greedy just as we tend to be generous.
We go either way depending on how we see our world... greed really doesn't see much at all...it just doesn't grasp the inner-connectedness of life, nor alas, the whole re-cycling concept...you know, like we are going to die...

Shouldn't a standard be open to anyone - to freely implement?

Therefore nothing of MS's could ever be a standard.

I would have thought BULLmer, rather than Billy, would be the prime suspect in underhand moves like this. Given that Bill takes a back seat now.

I hope they keep it up, will only blow-up in their faces eventually.
