I was going to give fedora 8 a test drive this weekend, but have only managed to corrupt a partition while resizing it and burn a coaster. I'll try again tomorrow..

I've gotten it downloaded as well. Just need to burn me a DVD and I'm off.

If we can get a dozen Fedora users together, we can open our own topic! ":O}

Actually, we HAD a LINUX topic a while back, which died for lack of interest. I think we may actually have a dozen linux users here now, so it might be worth at least opening a Linux topic.

How about it, folks? Have we got a dozen users here who would find a dedicated Linux topic useful?

Note: I'm not talking about the 'idle curiousity' kind of useful, but the actual 'trading information' kind of useful!

This particular topic is currently one of our most flooded ones due to both Vista and Linux, so why not.

Sounds like a plan. With F8 taking off and the release of the new Ubuntu why not?

I'm making the move to openSuSE, so a Linux topic would suit me a bit more than a fedora one!

If your going to run Suse and have wireless, run 10.0. Seems to be the ONLY one that people have the least problems getting the wireless to work.

Well I tried to install F8, I really did. I downloaded and burnt a dvd but the thing wouldn't boot from a dvd. So I burnt another dvd (maybe bad burn) and that one wouldn't boot either. So I tried the recovery cd and that one would boot and start to install but when it asks what drive I have the files in (I pointed it to the cd) it would puke and not find anything. sigh....

So I installed Ubuntu 7.04 (7.10 seems to have broken wireless as well) worked fine on 7.04.

Oh well.

I don't believe the recovery CD is intended to be used to perform an install.

When you say it wouldn't boot from the DVD, do you mean it wouldn't boot AT ALL, or that it tried to start and failed? Did you even get to where you could select to a regular install or a text install?

Said.... booting from Cd......
Boot failure, press any key to retry.
Rinse, repeat.

Wow.

Was that from the download here? If so, did you try getting it directly from fedoraproject.org?

Our MD5 / SHA1 matches up, so it isn't our copy thats the problem. Could be that some burning apps dont handle bootable ISOs as well as others.
