Except you have to run it on Mac Hardware.

No matter how good OSX ever gets, this simple limitation will always get in the way for the vast majority of computer users.

Macs are now Intel machines, same as Windows PCs.

I think my point was obvious enough.

I cannot buy Leopard and just run it on my computer.

I don't see your point. You're saying that OS X is no good, because it doesn't run on your computer?

I don't see the point to your posting in this thread!

Favu said it is more tempting than Vista.

But he can't have it over Vista because only Vista will run on his machine.

I didn't say OSX was no good at all. I said that no matter how good it gets, the fact it can't run on a normal computer gets in the way of most people being able to have it.

I'd have to say its incredibly relevant, OSX is no good to him because it won't run on his computer.

In my experience OSX is a pretty good OS, and if I was able to run it on my machine, I would certainly consider it.

Its package manager is much better than the Linux alternatives which are great if your program is in the repository, but suck otherwise. The GUI effects are not as nice as Compiz, but better than Vista in that the animations and features actually help productivity a bit. I actually like the Start menu approach of Windows XP/Vista as opposed to OSX's dock/dig through your applications folder approach. I have heard that a third party program called Quicksilver lets you search programs and run them quickly (kinda like Vista's Start Menu search bar).

It is built on a solid kernel, but from what I understand security settings are a bit lax compared to linux.

Quicksilver is one of my favorite little programs on OS X. I've got it setup to 'open' when I press Command+Space. Then all I need to do is type in the first couple letters of whatever program I'd like to open, hit enter and it's done. However, that's not all that QS does. It also lets me play, pause and skip iTunes tracks. It lets me do calculations without having to open up a calculator. I could email my buddies a short message from QS without having to open up Mail. Honestly, I wouldn't compare it to Vista's search bar because it's so quick and infinitely extensible.

I'll be installing Leopard later tonight, and I'll post my impressions of the new operating system shortly afterwards.

It doesn't run on a PS3, or an Xbox, or a microwave oven. Absolutely incredible!

If we are going to compare operating systems, for what they are, i.e. operating systems, then saying "but it doesn't run on my hardware" is a bit silly.

For example, if I was to say windows 95 is much better than vista, you would all think I was crazy, however if I only had a 486 that is what I would say... you get my point.

I was just saying that, as an OS, as in, you go home, turn your computer on and there it is, irrespective of hardware, Mac OSX is more tempting to me than Vista. No it wouldn't play my games, and no, it wouldn't run on my hardware, but in and of itself I like it more.

Besides which, if you are going to say which OS is best, by virtue of the fact that it can and does run on almost anything, Linux is the blatant winner!

Although, if you switched to a Mac, you would be able to dual-boot Windows with OS X.

I'll be switching to either a Mac, or Linux. Just haven't decided which, yet.

Trust me, only in the hands of the few!
In my hands.... I'll stop before I get hysterical! ":O}
