FUD

Basically, it looks to me like MS don't want to have to admit that they aren't really interested in doing any further development in support of Javascript. Despite the fact that supporting IE6 and 7's non-standard implementation of Javascript and the W3C DOM is a pain in the arse (at least if you are also trying to support non-IE browsers like FF and Opera, that actually have something resembling ECMAScript compliant implementations), there's information out there on how to do it.

If a new standard comes out for EcmaScript 4, then MS will either have to at least ATTEMPT to support it, or else admit that they don't give a rat's behind about standards compliance. And if they DO implement ES 4, then they'll have to deal with the inevitable standards compliance issues that arise from THAT.

Better to try and muddy up the waters, and derail (or at least delay) an ES 4 implementation.

They are telling Mr Java how best to implement? How kind.

MS To to Standards:
"Whadda ya mean it'd be really really hard or impossible? You guys work for nothing, what else have you got to do! Go on! Make MS part of your standard we dare ya!"
