| I wonder why even M$ own guide does not work for me. I got a simple wish on my Win2k SP4. Okay, maybe more wishes, but let's start with this one. I want to disable the properties menu on the Recycle Bin. To do that, one need a (at least in theory) very simple register tweak: Quote:
And it is even backed up by very own M$ infos: Microsoft Corporation Now imagine my shock that this simply does NOT work for me. Anyone can explain/help me out there? As for my other wishes, I wished to get rid of the Active Desktop menu and I discover that just using Gpedit.msc one can go to: User settings, Messages templates (?), Desktop and set the Active Desktop disable to Enabled and that it is ![]() (the english names are just translated back from Czech win translation, so they can be far from perfect) However I also wished in the cursed Recycle Bin to get rid of the second useless menu, the one that goes "Create shortcut" ... And I did not find anything that can help me.Buy maybe someone do?

| Well, I looked into the Admin templates in gpedit.msc and true - I can remove properties ONLY from the Documents icon (not anymore on my desktop) or from the MyComputer icon (last thing I want to do), but not from Recycle bin... ![]() Damn. Doest that mean the M$ is incorrect? And nothing is here for me: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Group Policy Objects\ ![]() And yes, noted, that this "removing properties" is only a part of what I want I always want too much, I quess. But I'm ready to hack anything, including Shell32.dll

| Looking into that article on technet, its for server 2003, which is what XP 64bit is based on, so some options there may not even be on XP pro 32bit when they are on 64bit let alone w2k. I don't have a w2k or w2k server to play around with anymore, so I probable can't help you much. The only thing I can think, is to make sure you log off then on again beftore checking. Also are you going into the registry, or creating a key and importing it? If you are creating the key, take the spaces out of the "\CurrentVersion\"

| Exactly. It looks like on XP it is quite easy job. At least half of it for sure. Someone recommend me the ContextMenuEditor, but it can edit (of course) only the added context menu's. It can't remove the already existing ones. And the Recycle Bin menu is in the shell32.dll file. Hence reboot will be necessary after each test. Quote:

| Looks like you will have to edit shell32.dll. Sorry but I can't help you with that 1, someone else here might though.
