Recording tab does not appear in properties of DVD drive

As the title suggests, I am having some issues burning CD's through Windows. Under send-to, the device no longer appears, and the recording tab has gone missing from the device properties. Using Nero or any other software is not possible, it needs to be the Windows Recording software. The computer is Windows XP Home SP2.

So far i've cleaned the upper and lower filters. Changed optical drive ran through the troubleshooting on Microsoft's page, nothing has yet to work.

Any thoughts on this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Have you got another computer you can put it into? Would be interesting to see if it is properly recognized on another machine.....

Thats a good idea, but I never thought of that.

I actually did a System Restore to about 6 weeks previous and that seemed to fix the issue. I would still like to know what caused it though, just for future reference.
