5 years , I give MS OS 5 years tops... How much does Vista cost when giving it to a student?

And how much for a complete Linux machine...How much for Linux software beyound the OS?

But here why I think Windoze will faill. Windoze must control eveything you do and tax it. You won't like that.

Linux, well Linux mostly minds it's own business. Most will prefer that...imho

LOL Do me a favor, try calling that number! LOL

Though to be honest, it's been several years since I tried to call MS, they may have hired someone to answer the phone...":O}

You can buy different support for most of the major distro (I think) I never use that stuff, "For I have a forums!" ":O}

Kinda my point. You ARE the type of guy that will go out and look around the web to find your answer. MOST people won't. (well not that one's I deal with day to day) I deal with it all day long, I AM the 1-800 number. I am the guy that comes running when you come a calling. Usually my support is free (well, you've paid me ahead of time for maintence stuff) Sometimes I charge you extra cuz the copier REALLY can't hold your weight when you wanna copy your butt.

Alot of people look forward too that number. And yes I do know that some distro's are offering support. I do see it as a good thing.

I think the Shuttle would be a great PC for the kids, cheap, small, and cute. The Everex still comes off as a cheap pos imho.

As some of you may or may not know, I work for Harvey Norman (computers / electrical / furniture) retail outlet, we have always been Windows based. We currently have an Asus 7" Eee PC which comes with a modified version of Ubuntu, I believe (dont quote me on that). It comes with a Pentium M 1.6ghz, with a 8gb HDD and 1gb of RAM. Beasty little machine. Its really quite cool, i'll see if I can rustle up a photo or two on Monday. Its ideal for students and business users on the go.

Its almost exactly like the Toshiba Librettos that I really loved back in the day. I want one, I don't know what I'd use it for, but I want one anyway.

I do believe it is a modified Xandros install.

EDIT and a 900 Mhz Celeron, not a 1.6 Ghz Pentium M (at least the ones in the UK are).

Still, with a cut down Xandros distro, its about all you need. I want one, I want one, I want one.

How about we start a drive to buy dsio an Eee PC, in a similar fashion to the drive to buy poor children XO laptops. It costs a bit more, but then I'm more special than poor children, and thus more deserving.
