XP n HP what can I do?

First off, Hi everyone its been a while since I have been here. My systems have been in storage for almost a year n I am trying to keep the Fiancee's system running. Its an HP system with obvious flaws in its recovery system. It loads everything under the sun back onto it and it is a complete disaster to get running smooth. I am thinking of completely wiping the entire drive and installing a complete new os without everything HP bundled with it.

My delemna is if I wipe the drive clean, and perform a low level format I have no working os, since hp did not supply a disk with XP on it.

What do I do? do I go out n buy Vista? OR Can I download a working version of XP and use the product code number that came with her system?

I don't want a hacked version or a workaround for xp, I have installed a separate drive for now with W2K on it but she wants her xp back. I really hate the amount of time it takes to clean all the trash of the recovery setup HP has.

TIA

G

Use the HP recovery then use "crapcleaner" to remove all the crap. leaves you with a normal winxp.

Is that for real???

Crap cleaner. Sounds like something you would use in the toilet.

I never use the recovery disc. I fresh install of XP is what is needed.
