So it's not a coincidence that Opera was pushing an update yesterday?

I had to uninstall it in Fedora 8. I couldn't cut and paste to the main windows of our Joomla back end...don't know whose fault it was...just did a restore and got on to my day a bit late...":O}

Haven't had any issues with that here, but I haven't tried under Linux, either.

I can't find a spell checker for v3. Aspellfox is the only 1 I can find and it's only compatable with older versions of Fire fox. Have I missed it? Hope so! I have the dictionary but it's not much good by its self. Something akin to Ispell for IE is what I'm looking for. Do yourselves a service, reading my posts will get easier!

You don't need to find a spell checker. Since v2, there's been a built in spell checker. All you need to do is download a suitable dictionary for it. You can do that at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:3. What more were you looking for?

Yea, I already have the dictionary and it under lines the word misspelled. Most times I already know the word is misspelled, the problem is I don't know what the right spelling is and FireFox 3 isn't helping. Ispell gave alternitve words to choose from. Is there a way to do that in FireFox 3?

Right click on the mis-spelt word, and it'll show you alternatives.

Indeed it would!

Three days or so after 3.0 was released I read that there was a bug in it that needed fixing. No trace of an update from Mozilla, AFAIK. Gadzooks!

I confess, I have to use that from time to time so what I do is copy/paste it into MS Word. This helps a lot more than FF3 spell checker does!
Most of the time the examples of alternate words are totally wrong in FF3!
It's a pain to do it that way but at least you don't look stupid after posting.

Well, I'm pleased to report the the recent update of FireFox to 3.01 has fixed the only problem I had with FireFox 3: whenever I clicked on the 'Browse' button on a web page to select a file from my local drive for upload or whatever, FF3 would crash. This appears to be resolved in FF 3.01.

Did the same with Thunderbird, Thunderbird spell check is just the best! LOL

But now I'm finding the Fire fox very helpful in the forums... Wish V-board would get their act together as far as a spell check in our forums....

Firefox already has a good spell checker built in, I thought?

I can certainly evaluate a spell checker to replace the one that quit working in the latest upgrade. There are several to choose from. The only reason I hadn't done so is because I didn't think anyone was using the one we had previously, owing to pretty much all of the browsers out there either coming with a spell checker or having one built in.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I was using Opera, still do for our back end, but am back to using Firefox in the forums for the spell check. Yes it's built in Firefox and as Aidan mentions you can pick your dictionary. And of course your right near all the biggies do I think come with these days...Yet in certain obscure and remote regions of Fedora 8 one can still find hayseeds like me trying to make do in the mean and unforgiving backwaters of linguistic incompetence...But be warned... a bad spell check is worse than none! They just mock the user and waste his time! ":O}

Si, es verdad! A bad spell checker is worth its weight in lead. Shame on me, I should have posted that the update to Firefox 3.1 was available.
