Post NVIDIA Releases PhysX Enabled Drivers for GeForce 8 Series Cards!

NVIDIA Releases GeForce 8 Series PhysX Drivers

Tuesday August 12, 2008
Since NVIDIA first announced it had purchased PhysX, gamers have been waiting with anticipation for NVIDIA to release drivers to enable physics processing on the GPU. Today, NVIDIA finally delivered the drivers that enable PhysX physics processing on its high-end 8 series GeForce GPU's.

NVIDIA says physics processing on NVIDIA GeForce 8 series and higher GPUs is able to handle 10 to 20 times more visual complexity than what's possible on today's traditional PC platforms. NVIDIA also points out that its PhysX technology can leverage both the CPU and GPU architectures to deliver ultimate performance and an ideal end-user experience.

PhysX Enabling Drivers 177.83: Geforce Powerpack

GeForce v177.83 graphics driver
a. Install this first. This driver is required for GPU hardware acceleration in the following applications.
b. This driver package will also install v8.08.01 PhysX System Software.
c. The PhysX control panel can be accessed through the Windows Start Menu under 'NVIDIA Corporation

Look in the Benchmark section for my results using these drivers on both XP & Vista.
I haven't installed them yet as I'm still downloading the XP drivers! They are each over 100mbs in size!
Currently I'm running Vista so Vantage will be my first posting results followed by XP & 3DMark06.

I feel like a red headed step child. A 7 series isn't even aloud as a tag along.

LOL..

As much as I'd like to see what my rig would do in Vantage, I don't think I will be installing Vista again any time soon.

Need a 3DMark Linux port, so we can have some penguin races..

They keep saying they are 'evaluating it'.

Maybe they are unaware of the fact that they produce software that has no real productive use. That could use some "evaluation"..

You know, you can download this an extract the PhysX drivers out of the installer with WinRAR.
I know, I just did it to see if it was in there and it is.
The PhysX drivers all by themselves are 50mbs.
Now I know why the driver package was 100mbs.
I'm not sure if it will support the 7 cards or not though. I extracted this installer and there's no ini in there saying that you can't install it on a 7 series card, but there is in the Nvidia driver package of course.

I don't have Vista installed at all Cliff. I have an Acronis Image file of it and from time to time restore it to the OS partition to update it like I just did with the new Nvidia PhysX drivers...
That's how I did the test with Vantage to see if it made a diff and it did.
I run XP all of the time like I am right now though.
