Mozilla drags IE into the future with Canvas element plugin

Most browser implementors are quick to adopt emerging Internet technologies, but Microsoft can't or won't make Internet Explorer a modern web browser.

I've got a mixed view on this. It's hard enough getting people off of IE now; providing plugins that make IE more compatible with newer technologies is doing Microsoft's job for them, and making it that much more difficult to break IE's stranglehold on the market.

On the other hand, getting IE at least moderately standards compliant would definitely make web authoring a whole lot easier.

When it's all said and done, it really is all about what's best for the end user though, so I guess I've got to agree that if MS won't fix IE, then building plugins that make IE work right is probably the best way forward. If people get tired of having to download 29 plugins to make IE work properly, then may switch to a browser that works properly out of the box.

I've allways found Microsoft to be scitzoid in it's creation and growth.
Gates basicly stole it from Jobs, altered it, Sold the licience to anyone who would buy it. That was the single thing that made Microsoft, get everybody useing it-then you've got em where you want em! Jobs refused to sell licience to anything and we all know where Mac is.
But after letting his technologies out for everyone to use [for $ of course!] They pull up the draw bridges when it comes to other technologies intigrading with them.
The one that I find so petty it's always hits my funny bone is the Linux file systems. Windows won't recognize them. Yet Linux can work with NTFS. Windows 3rd party apps don't have a problem. It's just Gates acting like a 2yr old.
jobs made a decision not to share.
Now IE won't use someone elses technology just because.....
I think the 2yr old woke up from his nap.

Actually, Gates stole DOS from Digital Research; DOS is based on CP/M - originally it even used many of the same interfaces.

Windows is arguably another Digital Research theft, this time of GEM: Windows 1.0 used a very similar architecture internally, IIRC. However, Apple, DRI, and MS pretty much ALL stole the idea from the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center project; that's where the Apple Lisa had it's genesis.

IE in it's current state is a pretty good browser. It could be better, but then so can everything. It's a far cry from the dark days of IE6
