Mundie: The cloud needs killer apps Written by Daniel Thursday, 25 September 2008 Mundie: The cloud needs killer apps Posted by Mike Ricciuti, September 25, 2008 7:49 AM PDT CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Like others in the industry, Craig Mundie sees computing moving increasingly to the cloud. The big question is: what will be the "killer" applications driving demand? Mundie, Microsoft's chief research and strategy officer, offered up the company's vision for the next phase of computing at the EmTech conference here on Thursday. That vision includes an increasing reliance on cloud-based computing, robotics, and far-flung sensors. And, Mundie says, client-based operating systems. [Frontpage...]

Its where you pay a company which hosts the applications / programmes Cloud computing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Similar to Google Docs https://www.google.com/accounts/Serv...tm_medium=more The biggest problem is going to be security, and the fear of that company having to hand over its HDD's to someone like the RIAA, or what happened to google, compromising company secrets. Personally, sounds like a good idea. But I wont be jumping on that bandwagon. I like my stuff being mine, and when I don't have an internet connection I want to be able to use those apps.

I knew that name was familiar. At the start of the movie "Revolution OS" Eric Raymond mentions that Mundie and he were in an elevator together when Mundie was somewhat rude to him, and Raymond freaked him out by glaring at him and snarling in a deep voice "I'm your worst nightmare". Rather funny that the guy's biggest claim to fame is having the crap scared out of him in an elevator by a hacker with facial hair.
