Thumbs up

Slight improvement over the 177.98 drivers I had installed from 12083-12087.
I'm sure this was a big improvement over the 175.19 drivers though.
So this driver package gets my !

It should work, but might slow things down a little. You'll just have to try and see.

Will it work? Yes
Will it improve the performance of your card? Only testing will tell.
You'll just have to check them out to see how they perform on your laptop.

Btw Timmy, welcome to the AOA forums!

@dsio:

Maybe you know already, but just in case...even thought there's no GPU client for Linux (yet) you can run the windows client in WINE, see here for some info:
Folding Forum • View topic - GPU2 in Linux via WINE
This page in particular:
http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.ph...tart=75#p45909

You could get that 8800GT working for the team...it looks like a bit of work to get the wrapper sussed but it's worth 3500-4000 ppd for the project.

Man I tried running GPU2 + SMP client under windows for a while, and I got a loud screaching from my UPS.

I think while games can push it, this system had never experienced all four cores under stress while the gpu was also under stressed and that must have pushed it over its limit.

Will give it a go under linux with the UPS removed when I can.

If you had to make a choice, it would be more productive to run the GPU client than the SMP. Under Linux as well.

I can say, though, the Linux SMP client draws fewer watts than the Windows client [at least for me, YMMV], so you may be able to get them both going under Linux without your UPS complaining. I think all the info you would need to run it in WINE is in that thread I gave you.

If the UPS still gives you a problem and you were successful in running the Win GPU2 client in WINE, run that instead of the SMP for a large gain in ppd.
