Windows 7 knows where you are
Posted by Ina Fried

LOS ANGELES--Windows 7 has a new programming interface designed to make it a whole lot easier for software to figure out where in the world a PC and its user are located.

That should make it easier for a whole new range of location-based services from finding nearby friends to LoJack-like PC tracking programs. Even search could be a whole lot better if the search engine knew where you were. Indeed, searchers often enter their city with their location to try and get just that benefit. [Frontpage...]

Hmm.........the last time I did a search where I entered my location was.........ummm.............

Gee, I can't think of the last time I did that. I guess I'm either stupid, or there's something wrong with me?

Must be something wrong with you. I use my location at least once a week just to narrow down results. Usually when trying to find a specific item or business in town.

I used it just today even. I needed a tungsten recoil rod and 22# spring for my pistol but could not remember the name of place that was reasonably close to me. A quick google of "glock arizona" found me the place on the first hit..

That does not necessarily mean I would want MS to know where I am though..

Look on the bright side! Maybe this will help MS finally find herself! ":O}
(OK, look I'm sorry! I'm afraid to keep things like this bottled up inside me!)
