My question about these drivers is this...
Why should I download & install these drivers over what Nvidia provides from their site?

What makes these drivers better?
Are they more optimized for shader rendering or do they give you higher FPS?

What? Why...

The reason I ask is the last time I installed modified drivers that were tweaked it reeked havoc with my games...
I'd be playing then Wamm-O, everything was crazy on the screen & I'd have to reboot my system.
Not to mention I saw nothing that was optimize...they basically tested the same as the stock drivers with the exception
of crashing my graphics card.
So this made me not want to use them anymore...

Which modified drivers were you using when you had problems?

I haven't used the XG drivers recently, but they have worked fine for me in the past.

Some versions may be better than others.

I have used the XG drivers for several years exclusively on XP, going back to before their old site closed, TweaksRUs. IIRC it was hacked or something, and they reopened as Tweakforce.

The drivers consistently give me higher fps than the whql vanilla drivers, and the folding performance on XP has been stable.

They also have never given me any problems. I'm currently running 190.15, and am quite happy with that set. (I've been using them since 81.94. The best pre-100 driver for me was 94.20.)

Thanks for the replies guys.
It's been a couple of years since I tried out the tweaked drivers, I think
they were from GURU but they were modified Nvidia.
As for the exact drivers I don't remember.

I might just try them out to see for myself when I feel
like doing some testing & experimenting/tweaking.
Now off to play some Wolfenstein...

The 3DGuru drivers went through a period of instability and issues, which was part of the reason the TRU guys started doing their own thing.

Bear in mind though, these 'tweaked' drivers are still the nVidia compiled drivers, to the best of my knowledge. What is different with them is that they usually adjust some of the registry parameters and/or replace new dlls with older dlls, usually for stability or performance reasons.

Leastways, that's my understanding.

You might want to check out my Vantage benchmarks on these drivers.
