Windows 7 Upgrade Hell: Some Vista Users Face 'Endless Reboots'

Written by Daniel
Monday, 26 October 2009 18:29

Users began posting messages about the endless reboots Friday, saying that the Windows 7 installation would hang two-thirds through the upgrade. They reported a message on their machines that claimed the upgrade had been unsuccessful and that Vista would be restored. Instead, their PCs again booted to the Windows 7 setup process, failed, then restarted the cycle. [Front page...]

Talking

I'd say these guys experiencing countless reboots have many many sins and they are given a chance to see how bad the hell is!

To be fair, what I've read on this is that the number of users affected really is very small. With any product this complex, there are going to be glitches occasionally, and hopefully, those will be cleared up very quickly. This could have just as easilly been a Linux problem. Fortunately, it wasn't.

Maybe, but Linux gives us our money back... before anything goes wrong ":O}

BTW I could be wrong (That doesn't mean I'm MS!) but isn't win 7 a hell of a lot cheaper than Vista or XP were at release?

I bought Windows 7 for 30 bucks from MS. It was supposed to be an upgrade but they give you all the install files pretty much free and clear, including bootsect files. I went ahead and created a boot DVD, activated, and everything's been working beautifully. It's statistically impossible to have 0 issues when releasing an OS on this scale. I suspect many Vista users tried to upgrade to Windows 7 w/o a clean install, right on top of Vista, and of course things got ugly. Meh, W7 is nice. First time I've been genuinely happy with an MS product. I'll take it.
