SCSI controller card for CTP printer

Once again I have a unique situation with legacy software & hardware at work.
We send files with images & text through a gauntlet of servers and they get laser etched onto plates for the printing press.

One of the computers attached to the CTP laser etching machine has a SCSI controller card installed.
Adaptec AHA-2930CU

We are having a problem getting the card to install. I looked up the drivers on Dell Support and Adaptec, but apparently the drivers are included in Windows XP. I actually found them but got a warning and an error.

The main issue seems to be when booting there is no option to enter the BIOS for the SCSI card.
We should get a prompt to Ctrl+A so we can configure the card, but it boots right from the post to Windows XP.

I really need some basics on how to install a SCSI card and get the BIOS/Firmare installed so we can configure it.

As a general rule, I DESPISE Adaptec SCSI cards, but that's pretty much related to RAID controllers; their standard host adapters are usually pretty nice.

First, are you sure the SCSI controller is good? It sounds to me like it's not being found during POST.

Try reseating the BIOS EEPROM located on the card (should be a 32-pin DIP in a socket) and see if the computer finds the card then. If not, then you may need to go into the computer BIOS and tell it to enable the BIOS Option Rom or something similar.

ok, I'll try the reset and BIOS option.
We have an identical computer that acts as a spare. I pulled the Adaptec SCSI card out of it and tried it in this computer, but still no option to Ctrl+A.
I even tried the suspect card in the spare and it worked fine.
So I'm thinking its that option in the BIOS or something else is causing it to not recognize the card.

Also, Windows XP sees the card and asks to install drivers, so that means it exists to the computer, just not on the POST level.

you are not going to believe this (or maybe you will) but before I could check the BIOS settings, it just magically started working. I get a Ctrl+A to see the SCSI settings. And it see's the Panther Press CTP printer. I double-checked with the other computer and everything was the same.
Totally weird or typical of Adaptec SCSI controller cards... I don't know, but its working again.
I'm assuming we'll have a problem in the future.
Thanks for your help

Glad you got over the hump, sorry you now have to worry about a future cliff.

yeah, well at least I'm expecting it. We have a spare, so it won't be the end-of-the-world

yup, so true... most people over-react because they don't fully understand.
I mostly over-react with my wife because I'll never fully understand her...

I truly wish I could tell you that understanding will come with the years, but really, I'm just getting use to it...

Sorta like building outposts in a vast unknown wilderness, it's best if you just really like the scenery because it might be decades before you know where you are.

wow, a bit abstract and yet makes sense.
I found after 9 years its good to agree to disagree on our differences and enjoy the things we both like. The hardest part is sacrificing your own needs/wants.

What ever you do, do not approach with the idea of rationally discussing the "space" situation,.... that could cost you six square inches in a single day!

Just saying...
