XP gaming issues

Just installed XP. Had to get a few patches for some games I like. I havn't installed all of my games or checked some of the ones I have installed...   If you would fine people, chime in with any titles that you have had problems with and if there were fixes and what games just will not run.   Thanks

I'm afraid I just read this... Do you want to know if there are certain games that won't run on XP? If so, only older ones that can't be run on NT operating systems, otherwise all the games I've ever wanted to play work fine in windows XP (though some require patches, but not because of XP but because the games were buggy).

Yea,

I have Half LIfe, Counter Strike, Q2, Q3, UT, and Unreal Gold, Dues Ex, No probs in 98. Havn't tried them all yet.

So basically they should run with the updates?

I had a little problem with Rouge Spear; it would run extremely slow. So I went to where the executive was and right-clicked, and set it to do "Windows 98 Compatibility Mode" for that program. Now all is well

The game still sucks though

Again, if it runs on "NT" (workstation 4.0, W2K or XP) then it should run. I haven't tried all of these, but I do know that I have run Half LIfe, Counter Strike, Q3, UT, and Dues Ex on at least windows 2000 at some point. I always get the latest updates anyway, so I couldn't tell you if the updates are "required" to run or not.

The only game that wouldn't play at all in XP or W2K was Need for Speed, which only ran on windows 95/98.

Coolness thanks. It will be a game filled weekend then. I really dig the video quality in XP. 2D desktop is VIVID.

I will remember this just in case. Most of the games I have are newer. Except Q2. It worked in 2000 fine though. I will scope for the updates and see what happens...

most should work fine
I had problems with medal of honour in win2k
put it in winxp and worked fine
so as far as I'm concerned XP is a top OS for gaming.

So far no issues. It does however "feel" different. A little hard to explain.

 

Q3 works flawless on line....It's fraggin time...

The only games so far that work on my XP system are:

Half Life / Counterstrike
Unreal Tournament
Medal of Honor
and Quake used to be on, but I don't play it.

Older games just won't work on my system, like MS Combat Flight Simulator. Bummer, I enjoyed the dogfighting on line, too.

Tried using different compatibility modes, but that was a joke, more or less.

All seem to be fine. Again it feels a little diferent and seems a little slower. This is with a GF2MX though. The GF4 Ti will be a big help..
