Red Hat wont install

Hi,

I'm having problems install RetHat 7.2 on my system (system spcs is in sig as comp #3). When i try and install i get a Kernal Panic then it just locks up. I've tried using the noathlon command like the redhat site suggests but no luck. Anyone got any ideas?

Ooh. The PCchips board is the one with onboard video/sound/everything? Um, Linux has serious problems with onboard stuff. Sometimes it finds it properly, sometimes it doesn't. It really depends what shortcuts the manufacturer took when making it...

Shuh! I coulda had a V-8! Sorry, it's only a bit funny if you're a Yank. Maybe that's why SuSE 7.0 can install to 99.5% and then locks up the box, tight. I've got a mainboard that does everything, too. I'm only using the built-in NIC, and have a discreet Vidcard and Soundcard. It's an nForce 220D, but all-in-one is all-in-one.

This chipset wasn't even here when this oldish version of Linux was released. Duh! on me.

As the PC Chips Group owns ECS, I imagine that the K7S5A and the M810LR are extremely similar. The ECS mainboard has no built-in Video, though.

OK, I've been told that if you can download RH7.3 its got better support. I've also been told that you need to treat desktops with onboard everything as laptops, so check out the laptop HowTo. That might give you some pointers as to how to treat all the hardware.

I had MANY problems with 7.2 . Narrowed it down to the fact that it didnt recognize 256MB memory DIMMS. Tried several of the same size and finally got a good install on a 128MB stick. Red HAt 7.3? well...AOL's got their fingers in that one I think, not sure though. I'd go Mandrake 8.2 instead. SIre, 7.3's a good OS, I liked it, but I wanted to be a ble to run Mac OS in a shell in my linux OS, and I think only Mandrake has that feature.

Man, I need to solve my networking issues so I can get the Mac OS back on Mandrake again. It was prety kewl

If you happen to want a copy of SuSE 7.3, I can send you the CDs. Will also throw in a "patch CD" of all the updates I've added to it since

SuSE is good stuff! I tried it once, but it doesn't fully support the 8K3A southbridge yet. It's much better supported in the latest beta of ALSA, which I got when I dled the latest Mandrake Cooker release (9.0 BETA 1).

I suggest Mandrake for starters. Its 'windows'ish' just enough to NOT make you feel like a goon when you try to use it
