Install W 98

I am having trouble installing W 98 on the drive. After I run setup the machine goes to the Blue screen where it checks the disk etc. It stays here for a split second and goes back to an A prompt, refusing to install W 98.

It does this with multiple Startup disks. The drive has 2 partitions and C is active. Any ideas how to solve this.

There's no operating system currently installed? Not overclocked?

Have you removed everything but video to see if one of the PCI cards might be the issue?

I ran scandisk and got past this issue. But I can't install W 98. I alwys get the error message SU995035. I have several computers I manage in the family. Every couple of months I'm reinstalling an OS. This error message is a chronic problem. I have researched it, and followed MS Knowledge Base instructions to fix it, but it never helps.

Eventually, after numerous attempts at installing it finally installs. The problem may be bad startup disks, I don't really know.

Does anyone have any ideas on what is wrong here, or where to get a good W 98 install disk? The disks I make from W 98 don't seem to help. This problem has occurred on 4 different computers in the past year.

Thanks

Sherm

hmm. what version of 98 are you using?
That error is a "setver.exe" error, could it be your Setup CD is damaged?

I don't know what the problem is. It finally installed. If I keep trying it eventually works. I went through the MSKB re this error and followed their instructions re extracting the setver file a while back, but it didn't work either.

My best guess is a damaged CD

Thanks

I had the same problem and it was the disk. I usually make copies of my os disks and put the original away. try cleaning the disk. all it takes is one small mark to cause it to read incorrectly....
