| OK, first of all, uninstall any and all wine RPMs that are installed on your machine. Then go here: http://www.winehq.org/news/announce.php?rel=1.65 and download the latest public release somewhere. The following commands will unpack and install it: Code: tar zxvfs Wine* cd wine* ./tools/wineinstall wine program.exe If you gotta install the programs, it's usually a good idea to put them on your Linux partition rather than possibly fubar your Windows one.

wine program.exe That might work. It's worth a shot.

| I'm likely going to have to make a FAT32 part on my driver somewhere to accomodate the files I need for Linux. I've been trying to get Dreamweaver to install straight into linux and it just keeps hanging with an animated ? icon. ARGH! You and Orbit have a lot of similar suggestions about that, and it seems I might need to FAT myself, but being the bullhead I am, I'm not going to till its the last resort. I'm determined this time though. I had an easier time installing things in Red Hat for some reason. I found many more rpm's than I could for Mandrake. I fumble aroung with tar's and such, so rpm's the way for me. Worst thing of it all is once I have to edit any files or make config changes, I start to feel a bit Shrekish. (you know, a big oaf :clown: ) I've still not booted into Windows since I installed it, so thats a bonus for me. I'm actually getting a couple of books to read this time also. I'm not rushing into it and thinking it's going to open up like a ...umm...book I guess :-D I figure I'll be nice and patient and take my time to actually learn something instead. Seems to be the more logical approach. I remember the first time I booted into Windows. I didn't know what the heck to do, but over time it started to make sense. I'm trying not to have a windows mentality as much as I can, but I sure do miss the right click, send to desktop dealio. Anyway, enough of my blabbing...I'm off to try something else. Found a proggie called Scream that simply confused me silly, so I guess I'll tinker with that some to see what all it does.

| oh yeah...and one more thing. I can't change my res to 1280x1024. Asks to reboot, so I oblige, then come back to 1024x768. THis stuff freakin huge LOL Orbit suggested I edit the config file...if he could have seen the stupified look on my face Thats why I'm takin the 'slow road' this time. waaaaaaaaaay too much to learn in 3 days

| Resolution in XFree86 is controlled by a file called XF86Config-4 in the /etc/X11 directory. All you have to do is find the listing where it lists the resolutions and move 1280x1024 to the front of the list under the appropriate color level. Hope that makes sense

| Orbit and I were just doing that. None of the text editors will allow me to save files. My assumption is not logged as root. I made sure I set myself as root all the time (likely a mistake, but you'll find I'm a glutton for punishment when it comes to an OS) I'm keeping at it though. I feel like like such a 'fish' in linux. GIve me windows and let me fly, but linux? so new...different...scarey...kewl...fun...humbling.. . I figure by weeks end I'll have managed a fresh install by flubbing it to hell anyway, so I'n not worried about a reinstall if needed from the sluggish tinkering:-D
