Speedin up XP home. Any hop?

This XP home ver. seems dogass slow compared to WinMe. I want to familiarize myself w/ it but it's a real pain in the arse.

Here's a site with all the info you need to speed up Win XP. Sorry to say, but Win XP needs a lot more memory than Win ME to work efficiently. Microsoft's minimum is 128, which basically means you need 256 to make it tolerable.

I have almost 400 MB, but not the patiience. It turned out to be a 3day cracked egg. I know...I really didn't give it a chane.

9x's forever, at least untill I go dually and find a cheap cope of 2000.

Win XP is SOOOO much better than Win ME! It's only about 100 times more stable. It's also faster for a lot of apps although it does have more overhead. Give it a chance, you might like it. At the very least, switch to Win 2K which is also much better than Win ME.

I also feel you may have abandonned ship a bit prematurely bruno, I have nothing but good things to say about XP... things that would have needed a reinstall weekly are only reboot in XP Pro.

OK, you twisted my arm. I planned on trying it again anyway...on another HDD.:-D

Thatta boy!! Now to get you to subscribe as a member! :p

There are no real tricks, the software comes well configured. There are some services and features that the tweakxp will turn off for you. Otherwise, think of it as windows 2000 version 2, or NT 5.1... either way, it's the NT kernel with a lot of neat perks. It has also allowed them to fix their old mistakes in lieu of a few new ones... be sure to run windows update and get everything microsoft has needed to fix since release.

In defense of WinMe, I still think it boots faster and opens things(like properties) w/ double clicks that XP won't.

BTW MOOK, thanks for the link.

Still tweakin,

It's after it seems booted that it drags ass... Things in the tray, ya know?

Is is because it's such a hog itself?

I'm puzzled.

It was auto boots slowing it down.
