PM "Superman" and / or "Conrad" and they should be able to answer this rather quickly for you...

Think "AdianII" would also be able to help; as you know Spode is down for the count right now, otherwise he'd be the first one to see.

I personally gave up on learning that level of programming with HTML years ago , I just use Frontpage for the simple sites I make for various things...

Anyone here good with CGI and Perl? If so you'd be of great help. I don't know these languages, and the redirection needs to be in a .cgi extension, hence it needs to use CGI.

I had a CGI script going on AOA Files before, but then we updated the server or something and CGI didn't work anymore. So I just converted it to PHP. But anyway, there has to be another way.

can a CGI file contain HTML? If so, use an HTML redirect?

No, it can't.

What I tried to do was use print statements to write <script language=javascript>location.href="http://www.aoaforums.com/forum/";</script>

But it didn't work right.

Welll iam an html newbie myself, i just started a few days ago with the intention to learn but heck... i just don't have the time and dedication, plus It is frustrating when you can't get something right, and its not because i don't like it...I'am still trying to figure out Dreamweaver... plus i have ideas of what to design i guess that is the most important part of creating a website, I need to learn some basic things first... Like how to make a text such as "Enter" direct a viewer to a desired place... like make that Enter be clickable to the user... with a desired link like hred "www.www.com". I'am using dreamweaver a good gui that lets me do things such as split my site into frames and do some flash on it if i liked... but I still have to figure that one out.
All i know is that I've started on C++ and HTML and I dropped both after 1-2 days or both... all part of self teaching really does suck.

Ok in a cgi do this

print "Location:whereyouwanttogo\n\n";

you need to make sure that you do not have the line

print "Content-type:text/html\n\n";

in the same scope or this will not work.

hope this helps

It doesn't matter how you make it redirect, the problem is that our permissions, ownerships, and httpd settings are all screwed up.

Appears that it doesn't like CGI scripts or something. But it runs newspro. Is a complete weird thing to me. Maybe they aren't screwed up. But I know I had the exact same problems with the file refusing to execute on my server as on AOA, and it had to do with permissions and ownership. So I was probably just exaggerating

Holy Crap. I didn't realize that you guys were still talking about this.

To bring the few other up to speed, I have several reviews on the Rizenet server that pointed into my old forums. Well, instead of editing 40 some-odd reviews to remove the link i was trying to get a re-direct written that I could replace the Ultimate.cgi file with so it fired up AOA instead of Rizenet.

It is kinda a moot point now since the link just dies but if I could get it to work it would be awsome.

Problem is my cgi skillz are on the same level with an idaho spud... i have no cgi skillz in other words.

Well the address it needs to go to is www.aoaforums.com/forum since all the forum calls need to go here.

There is no address that it is calling anymore. It did call the ubb code front end on the rizenet server, but the file (ultimate.cgi) has been overwritten a few times to try and reroute it here so it doesnt matter now.

All I need is a cgi script that I can put into a file called ultimate.cgi that will force the link to go to the AOA forums.

I tried everything. In fact, the only way I could get newspro to work on daocplace was to ssh in and do a chown to me on everything in the daocplace directory, then upload it with my login for daocplace.
