To me, this is a natural evolution of the whole 'Software as a Service' licensing model. Microsoft and a lot of the other big boys are moving to a model where you 'license' the software. In truth, what you are paying for is support. With OSS though, you can see right up front that what you are paying for is support, and make the decision to either purchase support or not.

In the long run, I think this will make Sun money. In the long run, I think OSS can be highly profitable for most organizations, if they stop thinking in the mode of 'how can I sell more software' and start thinking in the mode of 'how can I help the people using my software'.
