It's a California World Series.

Playoffs are interesting. As my home team didn't make it to the post season this year, I rooted for all the teams in the playoffs. Why not? It's more interesting in low scoring games that way.

I have to admit that I'm at least a bit geographically biased in favor of west coast teams. When was the last time two California teams faced off in the World Series?

I understand, Cloasters! Our team didn't make it, so we can at least root for the 'left coast'! For once the Yankees are just watching! I appreciate baseball, where the worst it gets usually is the manager kicking dirt on an umpire!

I am nonviolent by nature, but I am obsessed with auto racing. I live vicariously, I admit it. At 49, my racing days are farther behind then ahead! LOL

Should be a good series. Who will win?

What is the world series any way? Is it a bit like a knockout cup competition?

It's the best of seven game series between the winners of each division after a 161 game schedule. More info about US baseball is here.

Ill say the samething i did about the "subway" series.

Big ****ing deal. Like these places even deserve more then one team.

There are whole ****ing areas that have no pro teams, but others need 5billion.

I think the popular imtoxication with professional sports isn't
helpful in many ways. The world is mad for football. I read an account of attending a match between some country and Portugal. Never again in a million years said the witness. Violence ran mad through the Central American capital after Portugal won the match.

Most Americans can't abide what they call soccer. Perhaps it's our tv diminished attention span?

The mathematics of US professional basketball dictate that perhaps 50 kids from the hardscrabble parts of the cities will get into the NBA every year. Yet millions venerate the basketball stars and buy the overpriced signature clothing and shoes that their fave heroes authorize. Some get shot and killed for their shoes by those even more desperate to identify with the giants of the game.

We need teachers, engineers and airline pilots more than we need people that can bounce a basketball skillfully. Eh, who am I to judge?

I love baseball. I loved to play it as a kid, even though I was not good at it. There's something nearly holy in a well executed double play. Perhaps you must grow up with a sport to understand its appeal? Is it insane that all major league baseball players make a minimum of one million dollars a year, to the best of my knowledge?

From where I sit, of course it is. But the "Me, Me, Me!" 1980's became the "Get out of my way or I will kill you" 1990's. Which begot the "Last one out the door, drop the big one. Join us in the Space Shuttle. We'll hold it for you!" 2000's.

Its 100,000 if i remember correctly.

Sports are alright, i enjoy watching them.

Its the fact that to some sports are no longer an entertainment outlet, but more of a way of life. Which is quite disturbing.

Well, before we start anything, many players, starters in fact earn far less than 1 mill. Look at the starting season of Mariners for example. The poorer teams have a much higher percentage as well. Don't get me wrong, it's a boatload of mula for playing a 'game' that's for sure!

Shimata. I am mistaken! I'm glad to learn that one mill isn't the bottom limit for major league baseball players. Vis a vis high salaries, some players play a lot of Triple A ball before they get bumped upstairs. AFAIK, salaries are dismal for everyone in the AAA league.

The last I heard, the Mariner's Manager is history. And his complaint was that even though the owners of the M's have deep pockets, they refuse to hire star or potential star players. Dunno if this is a true story.

I do know that Lou Piniella is responsible for at least a couple of magnificent season's
for our backwater team. We love the guy in Seattle, if he's gone more than a few tears are gonna fall.

I stand corrected. Glad that you explained that major league players aren't all milionaires, Uncle Bob. It's hard to draw a line between the entertainment and sports businesses.

Which reminds me, game one of the World Series starts at 4:30 PM PDT hereabouts. I bet that it's a pre-game show. I only get two tv channels clearly. Thank goodness I get good picture quality from the local Fox station!

Yarr, 'twas a very good game. We can never be certain that tomorrow will come. Somehow, the World Series bolsters my belief that God's in his heaven and all's right with the world. If this is what other professional sports inspire in other people, who am I to denigrate their enjoyment?

Except to mention that baseball is the only professional sport worth devoting one second of attention to. Oops, not quite. Women's professional tennis is worth some attention. Because they are such amazing players? It's the skirts, I admit it. Me so bad.
