all you gota do is imige the hdd of the xbox to yours, as boath are x86(you may encounter a driver prob if you dont have a gf3 though), or you could take its hdd out, hook it up, install win2k/98(xp would get funkie with hardwhere swaps) and plug it in it would be an awsome q3 box (on big screen tv! ) and scince its got usb, you could use a usb keybod/mouse and usb -to-eaternet bridge

That could be one expensive experiment, but if M$ will send me an Xbox to try that (yea right ), I'll do it!

I think it is safe to say that it would be a bit harder to do than that fireball. But it certainly will be a doable thing in the very near future.

The important thing to remember is that Microsoft is not selling the Xbox to make money off it's hardware, but rather selling the Xbox to rake in money from the software titles.

In this light, I could see Microsoft making a software pack that allows PCs to use the Xbox games a couple of years down the road, as this would increase Xbox software sales.

I think you make a very good point about the XBox, dimmreaper. At $300, MS can't be making more than chump change on it--if that. And it's gonna cost a lot more overseas, too. 300 British Pounds is considerably more than $300.

AFAIK, at least one of the available games for it is a good FPS. And the fighting female teenagers? That's gonna sell like hotcakes!

The quality of the graphics as seen in the tv commercials looks excellent. Dunno if that means anything in real life, though.

OK in theory that's perfectly possible, in reality, the xbox's hard drive contains some form of firmware making it unreadable, however, when this is replicated, i'm sure we'll see 100gig xboxes, but upgrading's never going to be much past faster dvd rom, because of the fact the proc's mounted directly onto the board

But It does have a clock crystal so......... you COULD oc the processor. I dout a mobile 733 will have much of a head room though. Plus you can't up the voltage, so that probably wouldn't work out so well.

I want to get my hands on an XB hdd to see if the firmware is an encryption layer placed after a normal IDE interface

I hope it is that way, because if it is, it'd be relativly simple to crack the encryption

ok i assume its the OS that makes the XBOX so quick? as its only a p3 CPU isnt it? so.... if we could somehow read the XBOX cd, and get some genius to fiddle with the OS type thing...... would it be possible to run it on a PC? and show once and for all that a PC can annihilate any silly little console?

XBOX uses essentiall GF4 doesnt it? when thats available for PC.... OMG!

I believe the Xbox has a real time clock, very similar to a normal PC. The RTC in a PC has it's own reference clock source, so changing a PC's PLL's reference crystal won't alter the RTC "pace", I can only assume the same would be true for the Xbox.

Overclocking the Xbox's Nvidia graphics accelerator might prove more beneficial however, there should be a reference clock source for it on the board as well.

wow never knew that! when GF3 came out, reviews etc said it was the forerunner to the XBOX chip. which would be Geforce 4! oh well! guess people got it wrong
