Billion Dollar monkey.

Pepsi will hold a promotion over this summer whereby someone will have a chance to win a potential payout of $1 billion. After a series of elimination rounds, one contestant will be selected. He will hold a multi-digit number. A "unusually dexterous" monkey will select a number at random. If that number matches the contestant's number, he will win a $1 billion payout. Odds are obviously pretty small as in infinitesimal, but it sounds so stupid that it made me laugh.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Pepsi would love for the contestant to win. First, it would have an inestimable publicity value. Second they're insured against the catastrophic event of a match. It seems that Warren Buffet's company, Berkshire Hathaway, has taken on the insurance policy.

Surprisingly enough the salary/income required to get into the top 3% of earners in the UK isn't really that high, £60K will do it. To get into the top 1% you're looking at about £100K.

Still a lot of money but closer to reality for most of us rather than the £1M+ a year salaries which tend to get highlighted.
