"Bar-Code" site shut down under pressure from Wal-Mart.

A site that recommended visitors to swap barcodes at Wal-Mart to get lower prices shut itself down. I'm on the fence on this. There is of course the free speech issue, and it is a political statement of sorts, but it's also advocating stealing.

Funny how all those sites out there that give instructions on how to make bombs and generally cause physical harm to others are all but ignored by the mainstream....as soon as there's a site out there that gives instructions on how to rip off big corporations, they're all over it to get it shut down.

(not that I'm advocating the ripping off of retailers)

But seriously, this site was encouraging theft, pure and simple. If one of us had a retail establishment and an outfit made bogus "discount" bar code labels to be used in our store, would we respond with "groovy. The users of these labels are entitled to steal from my-mart." ?!

I hear tell that the people behind Mal-Wart are... unsavory. Something about marphia or some such. The movers and shakers in Arkansaw seem a tad on the shaded side of the street. The international duty free pharmaceutical import zone aeropuerto, I wonder if that's still the way it was alleged to be?

I believe you are right. For WalMart's sake, I believe it's kinda like locking your house. It keeps the opportunity thieves out but the hardened criminals will only be slowed down a tad. Why make it easy for them is my feeling. Most criminals take up "the life" because they are basically too lazy and/or stupid to work in the first place!
