Daniel, you shouldn't be so upset. You can't guess what I hid inside the cookie before passing it on to Aedan! Trust me, after a week or two you'll be glad you aren't the one having it hanging on the wall!!

Suffice to say that it will turn green and start to stink after a week or two! After 4 weeks it will come to life, breaking out of its glass frame and spreading havoc in the UK!

I dunno... There's two people live in my flat, and neither are female. Said cookie might want to break back into it's glass frame after a short while...

There you go. Its a resistance tester.

It measures between the blue and black wires.

If there is no resistance between the wires the green lamp will light up, and the buzzer will.. well... buzz. If there is low resistance the yellow lamp will light up, medium resistance orange, high resistance red.

You can have the other cookie now, Aedan.
gah, I was gonna guess that. I thought that was how a thermister worked, as the temp changes the resistance changes, through some type of expanding metal. lol, now Im really interested, can anyone enlighten me?

Well actually, forget the expanding metal. All materials change their resistance as temperate changes to a certain extent. Different material exhibit different rates of change of resistance.

A thermistor just happens to be made of a material (or materials) who's resistance happens to be highly affected by temperature.

A thermostat usually uses two strips of metal with different rates of expansion. The two are attached, so that the whole bends as the temperature changes.
