Random but *very serious* - help needed on finding public records in US

The wife of a friend of mine is from Ecuador & she has two daughters. She is hard working & very good people, unfortunately her daughters have the habit of getting involved with men who could not be futher from that ideal.

How bad are these 'guys'?
Three months ago ex of her younger daughter (who is around 22), when he was sent packing due to his despicable behaviour, took it upon himself to kill her father (her son's grandfather) in cold blood with a knife, & made certain he did so infront of her small son, who was the only witness to the killing.

Her older daughter has her heart set on returning with her 'old flame' who we suspect has at least 4 convictions in the US - most if not all, in the state of New York or New York city itself.

His mother moved to the US when he was a young boy - but he absconded to Ecuador to escape being convicted as an adult when aged 17 - he had been in a young offenders institution before for theft on perhaps 2 occasions. He later returned to the States where we think he served time for drug dealing offences.
Do any of the US members of this site have an idea of how much of his criminal record is avaliable to the public ?
Where we would find his file with the details of his offences(offenses)/convictions?
What would be the best way of acquiring this info most rapidly & for the best price?

As I am certain it is clear to anyone reading this, this is a very serious matter. Obtaining factual data may help to dissuade this woman form putting her child at risk by being in the presence of what is evidently a man who is potentially dangerous & of an unstable disposition.

Do a google on their full name. A lot of this stuff is a matter of public record and can be found on the 'net. However, you may have to do some detective work, since there are quite often several people with the same name.

Good luck.

Googled him already.
The guy is small fry of course. I am unclear as to what this being public record will mean in real terms Gizmo, as in the UK this information is not public. I think I have found the page that would be the official portal to any criminal records held for him but as it states:
http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/
(See the 'criminal records' tiny banner on lower right of page) takes you to:
http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/o...cordreview.htm
" Pursuant to 9 New York Code of Rules and Regulations Part 6050.1, DCJS affirms the right of an individual, or an individual's attorney who has been authorized in writing, to obtain either a copy of all criminal history information maintained on file at DCJS pertaining to himself, or a response indicating that there is no criminal history information on file.

A criminal history record report, which will include any employment and licensing fingerprint events, or a "no record" response, may be used for any personal reason by the subject individual. However, a record review response cannot replace or supplant a fingerprint supported criminal history background check for employment or licensing where such a check is required by Federal, State or local law.

Note: a personal record review cannot be requested for another person in order to determine if that person has a criminal history.

A personal criminal history record review is initiated by requesting a Record Review Packet from DCJS, and following the directions for the completion and submission of a fingerprint card to DCJS along with a fee of $50. (There is no fee for the application packet itself, however a fee of $50 must be included when you complete the materials and return them to DCJS to obtain a copy of your records)."

The fact of him being charged with a crime and required to appear in court should be something that can be dug up with some effort. The particulars of the case may not be available. At least, that has been my experience in the past.

Ok. I feel that my lack of knowledge of the law system in the US is holding me back from investing my efforts wisely - can anyone point me in the right direction?
Anyone know any law enforcement agents in NY?

If you use the Yahoo "people search" function you will be offered an option of using a service that will give you a criminal record on just about anyone, provided they have one. In your case it may just be a matter of knowing you have the right one.....

The service costs about $50.00 USD as I recall but if you really want the info it is a small cost to know who is invading your family.

Just a suggestion......
